Hyderabad - Urdu State

The city of Hyderabad was found by Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah in 1591. Over the next few centuries, Hyderabad became the epicenter of progress and prosperity. According to Time Magazine report published in 1935, Hyderabad was the richest state of India. In 1955, Dr. Ambedkar suggested Hyderabad to consider as Capital city of India.

“Hyderabad has all the amenities which Delhi has and it is a far better city than Delhi. It has all the grandeur which Delhi has. Buildings are going cheap and they are really beautiful buildings, far superior to those in Delhi. The only thing that is wanting is a Parliament House which the Government of India can easily build”.

In 1956, the state of Hyderabad was broken into pieces and regions of it were assigned to Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka. People of Hyderabad who spoke URDU language were suppressed and weren’t given any choice to form a state of their own. Though economically displaced, the people of Hyderabad never protested against the outsiders. In fact, they welcomed all.

It took 55 years for Hyderabad to rise again. Today, Hyderabad is undoubtedly the most promising city of India. But some people once again want to capture Hyderabad and halt its progress. The question before us is, are we going to allow this? Doesn’t Hyderabad deserve to be the URDU state?

From the time of formation to till date, URDU has been language of Hyderabad. The time has come for Hyderabad to be an URDU state.
